現在，第五種方法—免疫療法，正準備大展身手。
高齡九十一歲的美國前總統卡特，二○一五年八月宣布罹患晚期黑色素瘤，癌細胞並且從肝臟擴散轉移到腦部。
幾年前，醫界預估這樣的病人，可能存活不到半年。但卡特接受放射治療和免疫療法後，去年十二月在出席教會活動時宣布，他腦部的癌細胞已經消失不見了。消息一出，引起全球媒體關注，免疫療法更加熱議。
權威的科學雜誌《Science》在二○一三年，已將癌症免疫療法譽為當年度科學的最大突破。
不久前，美國癌症研究協會盤點二○一五年的醫學重大成果，癌症免疫療法又再度上榜。
免疫療法，成為藥廠競逐的新戰場，特別是免疫檢查點抑制劑。
以下為最近個人經驗，病人因右腎腫瘤在内科因切片找不到癌细胞而照會。經過我以超音波導引做腎切片，顯示為高惡性之尿路上皮癌，由於病人腎功能不全無法作化學治療。嘗試免疫治療，經兩次注射後，左鎖骨上淋巴结完全消失，第三次注射後，CT顯示腎血管旁的淋巴腺及腎盂内的腫瘤幾乎消失，由這成功的案例來看，免疫治療的時代應來臨了，而且癌症成為慢性病也將不是夢！

KEYTRUDA is a prescription medicine to treat a
kind of skin cancer called melanoma. It may be used when your melanoma has
spread or cannot be removed by surgery (advanced melanoma). It also is used to
treat a kind of lung cancer called non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). KEYTRUDA
may be used when your lung cancer has spread and tests positive for “PD-L1”* and you have tried chemotherapy that
contains platinum, and it did not work or is no longer working and if your tumor has an abnormal “EGFR”
or “ALK” gene,* and you have also tried an EGFR or ALK inhibitor medicine. It
also is used to treat a kind of cancer called head and neck squamous cell
cancer (HNSCC). KEYTRUDA may be used when your HNSCC has returned or spread and you have tried chemotherapy that
contains platinum, and it did not work or is no longer working.
